Sunshine Transit Coalition started in March 2009. An educational symposium in 2008 pinpointed transportation as one of the biggest barriers to education and health care. The Coalition’s goal was to break down those barriers and make transportation easy and accessible to every resident no matter what their income level. Future goals include expanding service, and number of vehicles, to Trapper Creek and south on the Parks Highway as well as service in the community of Willow. At some point, we hope to help residents get to Wasilla for needed services. If you need service beyond Talkeetna, STC wants to help. Please call us, we are determined to help!

Sunshine Community Health Center dba Sunshine Transit Coalition is a 501 c 3 organization that provides inexpensive, reliable transportation to break down the barriers to health care, wellness, education and employment in the Upper Susitna Valley. Drivers do not accept tips, but donations to the system are warmly accepted.

Transit Advisory Board

The Transit Advisory Board is now the Transit advisory committee and meets at least every other month. We are always looking for new people that want to sit on the committee and are willing to volunteer their time!

Employment

None available at this time.

Filing a Complaint

If you have ridden the Transit and have a complaint, either on the system, the transit manager or about a driver, you can contact the Sunshine Transit office at 907-495-8411, write kschlosser@sunshineclinic.org or write to: Sunshine Transit, PO Box 830, Willow, AK  99688.

Current funding and projects

STC is a Medicaid transportation provider. We are able to provide those individuals with medical transportation to their appointments and get reimbursed by the state. Please call us for more information.
STC has received funding to expand service to Wasilla.  We serve the communities of Talkeetna, Trapper Creek, Willow, Caswell, and Houston.

Funding from the AK DOT has given us the opportunity to build this website and start a rideshare board for all residents in the upper Susitna valley.

Future funding

It’s all about obtaining money for operations. When we get extra funding, we will be able to have extra service. The more people ride and more donations, the better the service. We’ll continue to look for more sources of funding so at some point we can have Saturday service and longer hours of service. If you, as a rider, support our mission, you can help by encouraging your employer to be a supporter or advertiser or, even better, let your representative know how important public transit is to you.
